Pet Maine Coon kittens currently start at $3,850. Each kitten is individually priced based on traits such as color, eye color, polydactyly, lineage, overall quality, and other unique characteristics. Pricing may be adjusted in either direction as kittens grow and develop prior to reservation.

Male or Female?

One of the most common things I hear is, "I want a boy because I want a big, cuddly Maine Coon." But gender may matter a lot less than you think.

Male Maine Coons

Size
Males are typically larger and heavier than females, so a male may give you a better chance of having a particularly large adult Maine Coon.
The Bigger Isn't Always Better Part
A 20+ pound cat sounds impressive, but that much cat stretched across your chest or lap is not always the most comfortable snuggling experience. And a 30+ lb cat sounds "cool" but may just be an overweight cat.
Urinary Considerations
Male cats have a greater risk of developing a dangerous urinary blockage because of their anatomy. Any signs of difficulty urinating should always be treated as urgent.
Personality
Being male does not guarantee that a kitten will be more affectionate, outgoing, calm, playful, or cuddly. Personality is much more individual.
Best For
Families who love the possibility of a very large Maine Coon and understand that adult size and temperament can never be guaranteed.

Female Maine Coons

Size
Females may average somewhat smaller than males, but individual size can vary quite a bit. I have had females grow every bit as large as some of my males, so gender alone is not a reliable way to predict adult size.
Snuggling Size
Their somewhat smaller adult size can actually make females easier to pick up, carry, hold, and comfortably snuggle on your lap.
Urinary Considerations
Females can develop urinary problems too, but dangerous urethral blockages are much less common because of their anatomy.
Personality
Being female does not mean a kitten will be less loving, more independent, less playful, or less cuddly. Those traits depend much more on the individual cat.
Best For
Families who want the Maine Coon personality and look while possibly having a slightly more manageable adult size for carrying and cuddling.

Gender does not reliably tell us which kitten will be the sweetest, cuddliest, calmest, most confident, most playful, or most outgoing. Those traits are much more individual. A female can be your biggest lap cat, and a male can decide that he would much rather sit beside you than on you.

Choose the Kitten, Not Just the Gender

I would much rather help you choose the kitten whose personality and temperament fit your family than have you pass over a wonderful match simply because there is an M or F beside their name. Bigger doesn't automatically mean cuddlier.
