Freya is a carrier of MDR1 Medication Sensitivity. Half of the kittens will also carry 1 copy of MDR1 Medication Sensitiviy. Please let your vet know that the kitten may have 1 copy. With one copy they shouldn’t have a reaction but as a precaution, just avoid the medications that should be avoided. This is a common thing in the dog community so alot of drug makers already take it into consideration.
“Cats with one copy of the mutated gene are considered carriers. They may not experience the same level of sensitivity to medications as those with two copies, but they can still pass the mutation on to their offspring. Cats with two copies of the MDR1 mutation are at a higher risk of experiencing severe adverse reactions to common medications. Further research is needed to determine if cats with one copy of the variant may have altered drug responses. At this time, breeding cats with one or two copies of the MDR1 Medication Sensitivity variant should be approached with caution. If a cat with one copy of the MDR1 Medication Sensitivity variant is bred with a clear cat with no copies of the MDR1 Medication Sensitivity variant, on average half of the kittens will have one copy and half will have no copies of the MDR1 Medication Sensitivity variant.
