Spay/Neuter
PLEASE READ!!

I offer two options when it comes to spaying/neutering. Please carefully read every section below.
The details:
  • SPAY AND NEUTERING IS NOT AN OPTION IT IS A MUST FOR A PET KITTEN. We do, however, allow our families to choose if they wish to have their kitten spayed/neutered before going home, or sign a SpaySecure contract thru SpaySecure and sterilize the kitten around 6-9 months of age. There are pro's and con's to sterilizing early and pro's and con's to waiting. Please do your research and talk to your vet and see what option you feel would be best.

If you choose to have my vet sterilize the kitten, it will be done before the kitten goes home at 12 weeks and the kitten would be ready by 13 weeks. If you choose to sign a contract with SpaySecure, the kittens go home with a strict, legally binding Spay or Neuter contract. They will be required to be spayed or neutered by 6 months old (can be extended to 9 months if your vet suggests it) if you go that route. We use a company called SpaySecure to protect your kitten's growth hormones. SpaySecure uses binding contracts to ensure kitty sterilization at an older age. They’ll follow up with you to provide advice and reminders, ensuring your kitten's sterilization.
  • PLEASE READ!!!
One of the challenging things that breeders are facing lately is that most vets around the country are pushing for delayed sterilization as there is strong evidence that delaying sterilization has some great benefits, especially for larger cats. The few that I have found that still sterilize at 12 weeks charge a lot of money to perform the procedure. I have found 2 vets in my area that still do it. One vet I have been to, and while they were on the cheaper side for visits and spaying/neutered, I have not been impressed with their services. They also do not use propofol as the induction drug during the spay/neuter procedure which helps them wake up quicker, which is highly suggested for pure bred cats. To me, the savings in cost was not worth it for mediocre services and for not using the preferred drug for large pure bred cats. That is a risk I don’t want to take on your future fur baby. The other vet is my usual vet I use, whom I love, and they do use propofol, as well as do blood work, but they charge more money for the procedure. However, I trust them 100%. The vet works great with breeders and one of them also breeds herself. So with that information given, I do have a spay/neuter fee that is required if you choose to have the kitten sterilized before going home.

When it comes to breeders using SpaySecure, the problem many breeders have been having is that some new owners are breaching the contract and not spaying/neutering their pet kitten and instead breeding them. For that reason, if you wish to hold off on spaying/neutering your new kitten until they are older I do charge what I would for a kitten with breeding rights. Once the kitten is spayed/neutered with proof from your vet sent to me AND proof sent to SpaySecure, and after I have contacted your vet to verify the procedure was done, you will receive $900 back of that $1000. The other $100 goes towards signing up for SpaySecure. Please keep in mind that when you sign up with SpaySecure, you are signing a legally binding document with them and myself, and they will take legal action if the kitten is not spayed by the date set forth in the contract. So not only will you be ineligible to receive the $900 back but you will also be liable for all legal fee’s for breech of contract. Please note, you will be responsible for your vets fee to sterilize your kitten by the date set in the SpaySecure Contract.
  • When it comes time to reserve your kitten, please choose one of the following options below for sterlization:

    OPTION 1:

    - Kitten is spayed/neutered before pickup: $440 for a spay and $280 for a neuter. This covers the cost of the procedure, blood work, and the use of propofol (which increases the price alone, not all vets use that.) The spay/neuter fee will be required at the time of reserving the kitten so that I can book that procedure with my vet.

  • OPTION 2:

    - Wait to spay the kitten until it is older and use SpaySecure: $1000, with $900 being refundable upon proof of sterilization.

By purchasing a kitten from a SpaySecure member breeder, you are supporting responsible pet ownership and a commitment to the long-term health and well-being of your kitten. With SpaySecure, kittens are able to be sent home for age-appropriate spay and neuter. The cost to use SpaySecure is $1000, which is what it would cost to purchase a kitten with breeding rights. Once the kitten is spayed/neutered and proof of sterilization from the vet is sent to me AND to SpaySecure, you will receive $900 back. The remaining $100 goes towards the spay/neuter management and compliance fee to cover the cost of this program. SpaySecure allows the cat owner to delay the spay/neuter surgery until a later agreed upon date, which effectively prevents health risks associated with early spay/neuter and unqualified, unplanned breeding.

Please click here to read a letter concerning why we offer SpaySecure.
  • I understand that this is an additional cost on top of the cost for the purebred kitten. But in the end, whether the cat is sterilized thru my vet, or you wait and use your own vet, you will end up paying pretty close to the same amount for a spay/neuter either way. Even if your vet charges slightly less than mine, there is still the $100 fee to sign up for spay secure. So with that being said, thank you for understanding. I am not against delayed sterilization, but back yard breeders and dishonest buyers (none of mine so far have been a problem, but I know that many other breeders have faced that issue) have made this a hard thing for breeders to try to navigate and try to figure out what to do about that problem. They also struggle because research is also on the side that it is better to delay sterilization, and most vets are jumping on board with that. So I appreciate your understanding with the spay/neuter/SpaySecure fee’s, and most importantly, your honesty as we work together if you choose to delay sterilization. In the end, I want what is best for your kitten and for your family.
  • Special Note: One of our breeding cats, Luna, has a contract that we must sterilize her kittens before placing them in a home. The SpaySecure option does not apply to her kittens.

Take Home Details

Taking home a kitten:
  • Refresh yourself on the FAQ section and go over the health guarantee that is below.
  • We will be in touch and decide on a pickup date for the kitten. Those that are spayed/neutered will go home at 13 weeks old. Those going home with a SpaySecure contract or for breeders, the kitten will be ready at 12 weeks old.
  • Get your house/kitten room all ready for the kitten to come home. Kitten's adjust best and it is highly suggested to quarantine the new kitten so it can adjust to its new environment and to any new pets. A spare bedroom or bathroom is the perfect place for that.
  • Payment in full via cash is required at the time of pickup. If you do not have the cash or the full amount, you cannot take the kitten home until you do.
  • If the kitten is not picked up by the agreed pickup date, a $10 per day maintenance/boarding fee will be charged. If after one week of not hearing from you, or if the kitten is not picked up within a week of the agreed upon date, the kitten will be made available to someone else. Certain conditions will be accepted if honest communication is given.
  • Take your kitten home, let the kitten take its time with the adjustment period, and be patient with it. Let the kitten come to you, don't force the kitten to be held or meet new pets if its not ready. It will hamper the adjustment period and could have a backlash effect of the kitten not bonding with you properly.
  • This one is important....these are and will forever be my babies. I helped bring them into the world, felt their little kicks, carried a baby monitor around daily to make sure I didn't miss the birth, helped break their sacks, stayed up and woke up often in the middle of the night to make sure mom didn't lay on them. I weighed them daily, bottle fed them, bonded with them, spent hours playing and training and teaching them. Loved them fiercely. IF at ANY point you can no longer care for the kitten, PLEASE reach out and allow me to take the kitten back. I would rather refund you the money and rehome the kitten with someone I have vetted vs the kitten going to someone off of craigslist.
  • If you chose to not keep the kitten and do return it, the amount you will be refunded is the cost of what I would get AFTER the kitten is rehomed, minus the reservation deposit, plus what it would cost for me to take the kitten to the vet, run a fecal and respiratory PCR test, etc.

  • Maine coon cats are prone to certain health issues and our cattery does all genetic DNA testing to avoid such illnesses, however, any cat at any time may develop a condition regardless of precautions. Every MC has a 30% risk of developing HCM over its lifetime. We will guarantee your kitten for one year from the date of birth. 1-2 grade heart murmurs in young maine coon kittens are very common and usually go away by the age of 1-2 years old. A grade 1-2 murmur is not a genetic illness and we do not replace kittens unless there is a heart enlargement or defective function diagnosed by a cardiologist veterinarian in the first year. Maine Coon's with a 1-2 grade murmur go on to live completely normal and healthy lives. If a murmur of concern is found early on, doesn’t go away by the age of 2, is greater than grade 2 and the kitten develops HCM before its 3rd birthdate, the Buyer may choose to return the kitten and receive a replacement kitten of equal value. Proof of testing must be provided. Aub’s Maine Coon’s reserves the right to speak to the company, licensed Veterinarian or Dr. who performed the tests.

Treatments for preventative care such as vaccinations, parasite treatment and exams are not covered.
  • This warranty is in effect from the date of sale and ends 3 years from that date or in the event that Aubs Maine Coons cattery ends business, whichever happens first. This guarantee is not transferable to other owners. Further details will be provided in the purchasing contract.

Guarantee For Breeders

What it covers:
  • If the kitten is found to not be of breeding quality by a licensed veterinarian after a reservation fee has been paid, Aub’s Maine Coon’s agrees to refund the reservation fee in full.
  • Should infertility arise due to a structural defect present since birth, Aub’s Maine Coon’s will exchange the intact cat for a new one of equal value. The intact cat must be exchanged at the time of pickup of the new kitten and must not be spayed. Proof of structural defect must be supported by documentation from a licensed fertility veterinarian. Aub’s Maine Coon’s has the right to speak to the fertility veterinarian and see all documentation.
  • If the breeding cat does not have any structural defects but has not had its own offspring with two genetically different, healthy and prolific males before the end of the third year of life (a prolific male is someone who already has had offspring), the seller will replace the cat at the cost of a pet, given that breeding rights have already been obtained. Prior to receiving a replacement, the owner must provide proof of spaying/neutering for the original cat.
  • If the breeding cat's both first and second litter result in more than half of the litter having Cleft Palate, Aub’s Maine Coon’s agrees to exchange the intact cat for a new one of equal value from a different Queen. The buyer agrees to provide proof from a licensed veterinarian of every kitten who was diagnosed with Cleft Palate. The cat must be exchanged at the time of pickup of the new kitten and must not be spayed.
  • The breeding cat is guaranteed to be able to pass health testing of genetic DNA testing, echocardiogram, and hip dysplasia to be able to be bred. For DNA testing, the kitten will be guaranteed to have zero copies of the MYBPC gene for HCM, to have no more than one copy of the gene for SMA (This is a recessive disorder), to have no more than one copy of the gene for PKDef (This is a recessive disorder), to have zero copies of genes for any other Autosomal Dominant disorder that affects Maine Coons and that can be tested for by Wisdom Panel at the time of sale, and to have no more than one copy of genes for Recessive Disorders that affect Maine Coons and that can be tested for by Wisdom Panel at the time of sale. For echocardiogram, the kitten is guaranteed to have a result of “Normal” up to the age of 1 years since birth. For hip dysplasia testing, the kitten is guaranteed to have a result of “Normal”, from OFA, either as preliminary or certified. In the event that testing proves otherwise, the Buyer may choose to return the intact kitten and receive a replacement kitten of equal value. The cat must be exchanged at the time of pickup of the new kitten and must not be spayed. Proof of testing must be provided. Aub’s Maine Coon’s reserves the right to speak to the company, licensed Veterinarian or Dr. who performed the tests.

  • Aub’s Maine Coon’s cannot guarantee the kitten will not develop pyometra. Pyometra is not a hereditary condition and is spontaneous in nature, and therefore cannot have any warranty against Pyometra. Open pyometra can be treated unless the vet feels the infection is to severe. Closed pyometra cannot be treated and usually results in the kitten needing to be spayed.
