Special Health Note:

Jafar is completely deaf. Deafness itself does not affect his overall health, quality of life, or expected lifespan, so he is not discounted because of it. He is otherwise treated just like any other kitten, with a few simple accommodations to keep him safe and comfortable.

Deaf cats can actually be some of the bravest and most confident because everyday noises that might startle other cats simply do not bother them. Jafar will need to remain strictly indoors since he cannot hear cars, animals, or other dangers approaching. His family will also need to rely more on visual cues, vibrations, and gentle touch to get his attention and take care not to startle him when he is sleeping.

Because Jafar is the first deaf kitten born in my cattery, I do not have firsthand experience raising a deaf cat long term. His future family will need to be willing to learn about living with and training a deaf kitten so they can provide the safest and best environment for him. I will be learning right alongside them and am always happy to help research and support where I can.

After discussing Jafar with my veterinarian, because he shows consistent signs of complete deafness with no response to sound, additional hearing testing is not considered necessary at this time. I am happy to provide the email correspondence with my veterinarian to his future family if requested.

I am also in the process of phasing blue eyes out of my breeding program, and Jafar’s dad, Huxley, is being retired. You can read more about that decision and the reasoning behind it here.

ADD A DNA TEST: $160

DNA testing is available for families who would simply like to have an individual genetic report for their kitten. The breeding lines behind these kittens have already been DNA tested, so this additional test is not required as part of my health-screening program and is unlikely to provide significant new information regarding the known inherited conditions already screened within the pedigree.

Think of this option as an extra for families who enjoy having their kitten’s own individual report. Depending on the laboratory, the report may include genetic traits, coat characteristics, blood type information, and screening for a variety of known genetic variants.

DNA testing is a useful screening tool, but it cannot predict every health condition, guarantee future health, or rule out illnesses that are not caused by the specific genetic variants included on the panel.

The $160 fee covers the DNA test as well as my time to collect and register the sample, package and ship it to the laboratory, monitor the results, and provide you with your kitten’s completed report.

Returning Families and Multi-Kitten Discounts:

• $200 discount for returning families.
• $100 discount per kitten for families purchasing more than one kitten at the same time.

Breeding Rights:
Breeding rights are not available to the general public. On rare occasions, they may be privately considered for established breeder friends with whom I have a trusted, long-standing relationship. The blue eyed kittens will not be available for breeding for anyone.
